Change Something Round 2 Awards


Due to the sheer volume of ‘high-quality’ applications from young people throughout the North West to the ‘Change Something Fund’, Derry City & Strabane District Council and The National Lottery Community Fund have increased funding by £20k – bringing the final total of grants awarded for youth projects in 2019 to £120k. The second round of grants announced today will see 46 groups from across the Derry City & Strabane District Council area share a slice of £70k funding to help ‘Make.Change.Happen’ through a series of projects run by young people that will make a positive impact in their local community.

The projects awarded are listed below.

  • Brady Academy awarded funds towards their traditional music programme led by Steven McKeever.

 

  • Brass Works – Strabane Brass Band awarded funds towards their masterclass and performance.

 

  • Club Oige Setanta awarded funds towards their social club activities including funding to purchase floor covering, pool table and other interactive activities.

 

  • Cruise Centre awarded funds towards their multimedia and YouTube channel development.

 

  • Dennett Anglers awarded funds towards their CAST Awards.

 

  • Derg Valley Hospitality Association awarded funds towards the costs of hire of their staging for their ‘Open Mic’ event for young people.

 

  • Derg Valley Angling Club awarded funds towards the costs of their ‘Introduction to Angling’ course.

 

  • Derg Valley Ladies Hockey Club awarded funds towards the costs of the hire of equipment for their fun hockey tournament.

 

  • Derry and Raphoe Action Limited awarded funds towards the costs of their Ulster Scots Speaking Competition and Ulster Scots Music Youth Band.

 

  • Enagh Youth Forum awarded funds towards the costs of their Community Media Productions.

 

  • Echo Echo Dance Company awarded funds towards the costs of their music and movement programme.

 

  • First Act Theatre awarded funds towards their workshop costs with older people.

 

  • Foyle College awarded funds towards the costs of providing reading materials in their ‘Peer Reading Programme’ led by senior pupils.

 

  • Foyle Down Syndrome Trust awarded funds towards the costs of their ‘Equine Enrichment’ course.

 

  • Greater Shantallow Community Arts awarded funds towards the costs of equipment needed for their intergenerational conversational programme with local older residents.

 

  • Include Youth awarded funds towards the costs of transportation for young people to attend the creative programme in Strabane.

 

  • Involve awarded funds towards the costs of their visual art project.

 

  • In Your Space awarded funds towards the trainer costs of their Youth Troupe.

 

  • Jazz Life Alliance awarded funds towards the costs of their programme of gigs and workshops.

 

  • Kerala Association awarded funds towards the costs of good relations and cultural sharing programme.

 

  • Killeter Development Trust awarded funds towards the volunteering costs and branding for their environmental clean-up.

 

  • KVC Creativity awarded funds towards the costs of their after school cookery programme.

 

  • Londonderry YMCA awarded funds towards their student de-stress programme.

 

  • Mandarin Association Speakers Derry awarded funds towards the costs of their Chinese cultural exchange workshops with local young people.

 

  • Millennium Forum awarded funds towards the costs of their ‘Energy of Light’ disco for young people with disabilities.

 

  • North West Carnival Initiative awarded funds towards the costs of their engagement plans for the participation of young 14-25 year old LBGTQ+ community in the Halloween Carnival Parade.

 

  • On Street Community Youth awarded funds towards the costs of the driving theory test and provisional licences for 12 young women at risk of further offending and participating in anti-social behaviour.

 

  • Our Space awarded funds towards the costs of making a youth video.

 

  • Outer West Neighbourhood Renewal Partnership awarded funds towards the costs of Life Coach and Sports Coach facilitation.

 

  • Sollus School of Highland Dance awarded funds towards the costs of their professional workshops.

 

  • St Cecilia’s College awarded funds towards the costs of fun literacy activities for students with dyslexia from across all the year groups.

 

  • St Columb’s College awarded funds towards the costs of a 5K run and baseline surveys of participants around their mental health.

 

  • St Columb’s Park Reconciliation Trust awarded funds towards the costs of their ‘Peace in the Park Youth Games Night’

 

  • St Columb’s Park Reconciliation Trust awarded funds towards the costs of their project to work with  local coffee shops to try to eliminate single use plastics.

 

  • St Mary’s College awarded funds towards the costs of their workshop with Bruiser Theatre Company in preparation for their musical.

 

  • Strabane A.Y.E awarded funds towards the costs of the fishery course and CAST awards. 

 

  • Strabane Training Services awarded funds towards the costs of improving their premises so that young people have somewhere to go.

 

  • Strathfoyle Youth Centre awarded funds towards the costs of their summer programme.

 

  • The Arts Academy awarded funds towards the costs of their music programme and rehearsal space.

 

  • The Nerve Centre awarded funds towards the costs of their gig hosting Joe Talbot for young people.

 

  • The Obon Foyle Festival Group awarded funds towards the costs of their drums and other equipment needed to develop their skills.

 

  • The Store Front awarded funds towards the costs of their pop-up shop and workshops on sustainable clothing.

 

  • The Void Art Gallery awarded funds towards the costs of their week long creative programme which will coincide with Pride Festival in August.

 

  • Triax Neighbourhood Board awarded funds towards community workshops. 

 

  • UUM Trad awarded funds towards the costs of their Irish Traditional masterclasses.

 

  • Verbal Arts Centre awarded funds towards the costs of the ’Man Down’ fabric bands.
